Connecting ocean adventurers and change-makers for maximum fun and impact.
With multiple sailing boats we’ll facilitate connection between a beautiful mix of purpose-driven salty souls and between you and nature. As a group we can explore the edges of the ideal. We’ll share ideas, skills, knowledge, support, connections, and above all: fun ocean adventure time!
August 31 – September 7 2019 Theme: Connecting with each other & the sea (Due to high demand, there is a possibility to arrive 1 day later)
Croatia. Departure and arrival from Biograd.
The Ocean Nomads philosophy
We share and care for the Ocean Nomads ‘slow sailing’ philosophy. The focus is on simplicity, health, local food and community connection, active, adventure and sustainability mindset, walking the talk, and collaboration.
Ocean Nomads is a tribe of young (by heart:)) adventurous ocean lovers that are after an active outdoor ocean lifestyle. We share the fun, ideas & projects on low-budget, mindful, self-sufficient positive impact ways to live and travel sustainably at sea.
To meet a beautiful bunch of adventurous unconventional dream chasers on a mission.
To accelerate your personal journey to make the dreams happen.
To connect to nature.
To expand your worldview. You’ll step away from it all and get a dose of fresh perspectives on the world, others, and yourself.
To learn about minimizing your environmental footprint and to share what you have learned.
To find and explore ocean project partnership opportunities.
To create memorable moments. Possibly that epiphany moment.
To learn the basics of sailing.
To meet your tribe and expand your network.
Who is joining?
We created a facebook event so you can see who is joining this sailing flotilla in Croatia (and who has facebook ;).
What to expect?
The theme of this sailing flotilla in Croatia is simplicity, adventure and sustainability. We’ll be sharing adventure time, relaxation time, as well as thoughts, tips and ideas how we can live more simply and sustainable and explore the world by sail. No one of us has the answer, but together we may have!
This event is big enough to guarantee a wonderful mix of inspiring souls but small enough to drop anchor in the middle of nature.
The people joining this trip almost all come individually without knowing each other but after days of adventure, sharing and collaboration new friendships have been made. Sometimes for life..
The days will have a mix of sailing, jumping in the sea, snorkelling, exploring islands, finding treasures, hiking, chilling, and chatting about life, and sustaining life. We try to avoid marinas, so we can be closter to nature.
To maximize the impact for this event we plan to have different ocean impact talks, brainstorm sessions, and playful think thanks and challenges. The quality of the event is also determined by the input of the participants. Our skippers have set up ocean conservation projects and organization and will run an manage the boats with their shared values on minimizing negative impact and maximizing positive impact.
This is not a party experience. Sure, an afternoon sunset wine is ok but we’re not hopping from party bay to party bay to lose our time and health being intoxicated.
We’ll to use less fresh water and power than on land and the average sailboat charter. We can share thoughts, ideas, and knowledge on no-fridge food preservation, eco-friendly sailboat maintenance, and other solutions to reduce our consumption and footprint. Simplifying our lives is one of the most difficult but rewarding things for peace of mind and environmental conservation.
On board we work as a team. We share the tasks, operation, and sailing of the boat. We provision, cook, sail, fix things if necessary together as a team.
Per boat you share the costs for fuel, moorings/marinas and food. We estimate this to be around 150 per person/week. Per boat, the crew also takes care of feeding your skipper.
You’ll share a cabin with a fellow nomad. We aim to make a good mix on every boat. Boats may differ slightly in size / sort but will all be equipped with the necessary safety features. They will be between 40ft – 55 ft monohulls and will be sailed with 6-8 nomads + skipper. First week of September also still allows for sleeping outside underneath the stars. Bring you hammock and/or sleeping bag!
We do what we can to minimize our environmental impact. We sail as much as we can and use the motor as little as we can. We aim to provision as local as possible with as little plastic as possible. Preperation and doing your part is key.
This is a fish and meat-free trip. You’re ok with eating vegetarian style on board. For the reason it’s more environmentally friendly, it’s healthy, and it’s much easier on a boat. There is the land if you struggle with the menu.
It’s ok if you have no sailing experience. The Ocean Nomads skippers are qualified and can teach you the basics to help you become a competent crew member by the end of the week. We can write off miles and give you a reference if you need on.

Previous Ocean Nomads sailing trips have been organized in Sicily, Lanzarote and Mallorca. Here’s what the people say:
“It was the best week of my life.” – Alexandre Olivera (Ocean Nomads crew Sicily 2018)
“It’s amazing how us all, people from different places, got along with each other so well. We’ve made a definitely long lasting friendships. Thank you for bringing us together. – Marcin (Ocean Nomads Crew Lanzarote 2019)
“The most unforgettable week. The trip preparation and the crew members turned what would otherwise be an adventure into something a bit more special.” – Ben Clipstone (Ocean Nomad Crew Lanzarote 2019)
“In my opinion Ocean Nomads sailing adventure are: 1. A reward for the senses by discovering incredibly beautiful places and breathtaking sceneries. 2. An unbeatable way to get introduced into the nice world of sailing, 3. An open window to learn watching our world and the people from another more conscious perspective. I see Suzanne as an inspirational person who, with her example, inspire others with ideas and proposals to define or redefine life projects and use inner energy for more noble purposes.
Our oceans need strong committed people like her to advocate for our natural resources and leave them intact for the generations to come.” – Jose Maria Perez (Ocean Nomad crew Sicily 2018)
“Thank you so much for bringing together such a beautiful group of people. And for the great way that you manage the whole trip – I loved to be able to gain a little more sailing experience in such a relaxed and open atmosphere 🙂 It is super motivating what Ocean Nomads are trying to do and being part of it. – Nina Zetsche (Ocean Nomad crew Lanzarote 2019)
