Ocean Nomads trips are for people who want to sail and learn at the same time. Maybe you dream of crossing an ocean as crew. Maybe you want to become a skipper, live on your own boat one day, or just find out what life on a boat is like. On our trips you get closer to that, with good people around you.

Ocean Nomads trips and expeditions connect people to each other and to the ocean. Nothing brings people together like actually bringing people together, and nothing teaches like real experience. We sail slowly and travel light. We add plenty of nature and adventure to the mix.

On every trip we want you to connect with nature and meet other salty souls who care about the ocean. You practise your sailing and seamanship, and we all learn from each other.

A thriving community of eco-minded adventure people

The number one reason people sail with us? The people. Ocean Nomads is a global community of sailors who want an active, conscious and self-sufficient life. On board you meet people who share a love for adventure, nature and living more simply.

Our crews share the same values: care for the environment, sharing skills and working as a team. Many ocean nomads come back again and again. Lasting friendships and collaborations grow from there.

“I have been a member of Ocean Nomads for over 5 years. The community have been incredible over that time, very supportive and helpful. I have gone from working on an environmental awareness yacht skipper, to sailing school instructor, running trips with ocean nomads members and now having my own yacht that is a part of the fleet. ” – Andy

Hands-on learning and knowledge sharing

We strive to have an onboard environment that inspires adventure and play, with a strong emphasis on health, skill building, simplicity, teamwork and local and environmental consciousness.

Sailing is about the people and the learning as much as the destination. On our trips everyone is part of the crew. Together we navigate, provision, cook and solve problems, and we all bring our own superpowers into the mix.

Every trip offers real-world, hands-on training. We believe that the best way to learn is by doing, and by learning from each other.

We joined the ocean nomads meet-up this November in Greece. And even more than over the virtual network we found a great community live on board exploring the Greek islands. 11 days full of inspiration, ocean or nomad life related workshops held by members for members, hikes, workouts, vegan/vegetarian cooking sessions and lots of laughter together. 5 star recommendation for the organisation of the trip with nomads from all over the world (Australia to Austria and everything in between including Hawaii, South Africa, Ireland, and many more.). And 5 star recommendation for the spirit of learning from each other and helping each other to connect to make a positive impact this platform facilitates. – Markus & Sigrid

  • Gaze at millions of stars, far from city lights.
  • Watch dolphins surf the bow waves.
  • Witness stunning sunrises and sunsets without a single skyscraper in sight.

We take our time at sea. Longer passages give you room to build your skills and get to know your crew. For many people, a trip with us becomes the first step towards a life closer to the ocean.

Sustainable and eco-conscious sailing

We follow the Ocean Nomads ‘slow sailing’ philosophy, emphasizing simplicity, sustainability, and harmony with nature. Our trips focus on:

Plastic-free provisioning to the best we can

Water and energy conservation

Sourcing local, organic food

Vegetarian Meals

When you sail with Ocean Nomads, you learn to sail and help look after the ocean at the same time.

But the reality is that human impact is everywhere. Even in the most remote places we find plastic and pollution. Seeing it with your own eyes makes you more aware of our impact. Every ocean nomad can become a force for good, and we help you get started.

Sail with purpose

Looking after the ocean is at the heart of Ocean Nomads. Our trips include beach clean-ups and support local sustainability projects along the way.

They teach sailing and share the realities of life at sea, from boat maintenance and provisioning to decision-making and leadership. Many have their own boat or live nomadically. Before and after a trip you can ask them for advice. The wider Ocean Nomads network is there for your questions too.

The ripple effect: the adventure continues after the trip

Many crew keep sailing together after a trip. Some start projects together or create their own sailing adventures with people they met in the community. In the online member hub the conversations carry on long after the sails are down. Before every trip we also put you in touch with your fellow crew and share tips and resources, so you can prepare well and meet beforehand.
