Sail the Caribbean North Loop on SV Twister (Dominica & Guadeloupe)

This trip is for people who want Caribbean sailing without offshore watches around the clock. Warm water, short passages, time at anchor. Great as a solo trip or as the reward loop after the Atlantic crossing.

You don’t need sailing experience. What matters is your attitude. Willingness to be part of a team, pitch in, and live close to nature with people you haven’t met yet. This works for solo adventurers, couples, and travel buddies.

Maybe not for you if you’re after offshore miles (this is island hopping, not open ocean), if you don’t want to share your space, or if you only want a luxury charter. That said, the comfort level on SV Twister is high: your own bed in a shared cabin, a proper galley, showers, and toilets with buttons.

You are part of the crew. You help sail, cook, anchor, and run the ship. This is a shared experience, not a service charter. It’s what makes the trip.

Days are shaped by wind and where we feel like going. This is an adventure, on purpose not planned out in detail. The route and island stops are weather-dependent, so plans can and will change.

Living space is shared. Water and power are limited. Our trips are vegetarian and no alcohol at sea.

In return you get real skills, connection, and a slower rhythm that tends to stay with you long after you step off the boat. Maybe even a life change, like many who stepped on board with Ocean Nomads before.

A few reasons this beats doing it solo or with a standard charter.

You skip the research, the gambling, and the risk. We’ve sailed, worked, and hitchhiked with over 100 vessels by now. SV Twister is next-level authenticity, comfort, and safety. Think toilet buttons, your own comfortable bed, filtered water, real space. Very few vessels take people sailing legally, at this level of comfort, with these safety standards, between countries, and for this price.

Community, not clients. Around 15 like-minded ocean nomads, all as stoked about ocean life as you are. You’ll always find a few souls you click with. Some become friends for life.

Room to breathe. Below deck and on deck there’s space to move, stretch, chill. A lounge for games and reading, a big communal table for shared meals, music nights, and spontaneous workshops. On smaller boats you have to sit still. Here, you don’t.

The loop starts and ends in Martinique (FDF airport). You arrange your own flights to and from Martinique.

Passages between islands are short, often just a few hours, around 350 nautical miles all up over 10 days. The exact route and island stops depend on weather and the trade wind window.

Pack light. A soft bag or duffel, no hard suitcases.

Essentials: swimwear, snorkelling gear if you have it, a hat, sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen, deck shoes, shoes you can hike in for Dominica’s trails, a light layer for evenings, and a light rain jacket for the odd shower.

Leave anything you’d be upset to lose or get salty. Everything gets damp on a boat. A full packing list will be shared before departure.

Anyone can apply, via the form. For this loop we don’t run a discovery call but we’re happy to jump on a call if you have lots of questions. We email follow-up questions if we have any.

The voyage is operated by SV Twister and her professional crew under Twister’s terms.

Booking & payment. After acceptance, we send you a link to confirm and pay on Twister’s booking portal. A deposit locks your spot.

Cancellation. The cancellation schedule is set by Twister and applies through their general terms.

Insurance. Required: medical (including pre-existing conditions), accident and illness, emergency repatriation, personal liability, and sailing cover. Proof needed before departure. Common providers: SafetyWing.

Sailing on SV Twister with us allows for maximum adventure with minimum risk. Mum will be happy. SV Twister sails under the Dutch flag with professional crew qualified and experienced for this voyage. On board there’s an extensive medical kit, and we take extra precautions if you have a certain allergy or challenge. Ocean-worthy lifejackets are provided.

You are responsible for being honest about your physical and mental health, swimming ability, and fitness level. Travel insurance is required. We adapt to weather and sea conditions at all times. Safety always comes first.
